About Rajarajeshwari Nagar

Rajarajeshwari Nagar — RR Nagar to everyone who lives here — grew around Mysore Road and the BDA layout behind it, and the wedding halls grew with it. Most are built on sites big enough to put the mantapa, the dining hall and the parking on one plot. That is the reason to look here. For 500 to 1,000 guests you will find more options at a workable price than you will in south or east Bangalore, and almost all of them are within ten minutes of each other, so a single afternoon covers three or four visits.

The trade-off is age. Several of the larger mantapas have been running for fifteen years or more, and it shows in the toilets, the lifts and the kitchens rather than in the main hall. Walk the back of the property, not just the stage. Ask who the venue's tied decorator is and what happens if you bring your own — on this stretch the decorator is often bundled into the hall rate, and that bundle is where the cost sits.

Approach roads are the other thing to check. Mysore Road itself moves, but the layout roads behind it are narrow, and a 700-guest wedding on a Sunday in November puts cars on the main road. Ask the venue how many cars fit inside the compound, and whether they put a man on the gate.
